Research Assistant - Eumelanin and Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy

About the role

NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Kawader Research Assistant Fellow position supporting a research project on the molecular structure and function of eumelanin, using solid-state NMR spectroscopy and complementary analytical techniques. It is a full-time paid research position for up to 3 years, supervised by Dr. Brijith Thomas, and offers hands-on experience in spectroscopy and materials characterization within an international academic setting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and characterization of eumelanin samples.
• Operate and maintain solid-state NMR equipment (Bruker 400-800 MHz) under supervision.
• Perform data acquisition, spectral processing and analysis.
• Maintain organized lab records and help prepare reports and manuscripts.
• Take part in collaborative discussions across multidisciplinary teams.
• Work on individualized research projects under the mentorship of the supervisor.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or a related field.
• Strong interest in scientific research, particularly in biomaterials or spectroscopy.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to pursue graduate studies in the future is encouraged.

Required skills

• Familiarity with NMR spectroscopy is an asset; training is provided.
• Experience with Bruker solid-state NMR is not required.
