Research Assistant – Smart Engineering Materials (Kawader Fellowship)

About the role

The Center for Smart Engineering Materials at NYU Abu Dhabi is seeking a Kawader Research Assistant to work on thermal, mechanical and electrical characterization of novel smart materials. The fellow will join the Smart Materials Lab, contributing to experimental and modelling studies on temperature effects on mechanical behavior.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, characterize and test new smart materials using thermal and mechanical techniques.
• Conduct experiments, process data, and prepare results for journal articles and conference presentations.
• Submit bi‑weekly research reports and take part in group seminars.
• Train capstone students, interns and other researchers on relevant techniques.
• Collaborate with Core Technology Platforms staff to access advanced analytical equipment.

Required profile

• Background in mechanical engineering, solid‑state physics, chemistry or materials solid‑state chemistry.
• Experimental and/or modelling experience with thermal and mechanical property characterization.
• Strong publication record in engineering or scientific journals.
• UAE nationals are encouraged to apply.
