Research Engineer – Statistics & Machine Learning

About the role

MBZUAI is seeking a fully funded Research Engineer to work on statistics and machine learning projects for 3‑12 months under the supervision of Prof. Souhaib Ben Taieb. The role involves developing and evaluating modern ML methods and collaborating with academic and industry partners.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and evaluate machine‑learning and statistical methods across research projects such as probabilistic prediction, uncertainty quantification, conformal prediction, time‑series forecasting and anomaly detection.
• Build reproducible workflows for data preprocessing, model training, evaluation and visualization, and maintain research software using version control, testing and documentation.
• Run experiments, establish baselines, analyse performance, troubleshoot technical issues and communicate findings to researchers.
• Collaborate with team members and external partners, contributing to technical reports, research papers and demonstrations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with Git, Linux and writing clear, maintainable research code.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary or international collaborations is a plus.
