Research Scientist in Advanced Manufacturing – Civil and Urban Engineering

About the role

The Future‑Generation of Resilient Infrastructure Design Technology Hub (Future‑GRID TecH) at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a motivated research scientist to lead cutting‑edge work in structural 3D printing, advanced manufacturing, and intelligent infrastructure monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent experimental, analytical, and computational research in metals, concrete, and composite 3D printing.
• Develop and apply computational mechanics, topology optimization, and vision‑based structural health monitoring techniques.
• Lead autonomous and drone‑based inspection and vibration monitoring projects.
• Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and conferences, and contribute to grant proposals.
• Mentor undergraduate students and supervise junior graduate researchers.

Required profile

• PhD in Civil, Mechanical, Materials Engineering or related field with at least 5‑6 years post‑PhD experience.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications and effective communication skills.
• Experience supervising undergraduate or graduate research projects.
• Formal training or certification in additive manufacturing, AI, machine learning, computer vision, or robotics is a plus.
