Scholarly Communications Librarian – Library & Learning Commons

About the role

The Library and Learning Commons Department at Zayed University seeks an experienced Scholarly Communications Librarian to lead university‑wide initiatives that increase the visibility and impact of research outputs. The role blends leadership, program design, and collaborative consulting across library units, the Office of Research, and academic partners.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the lead consultant on copyright, fair use and intellectual property for digital and classroom environments.
• Champion open‑access publishing, manage the institutional repository and enhance discoverability of scholarly outputs.
• Guide researchers in using traditional and alternative metrics, and advise on predatory publishing, academic integrity and AI‑related challenges.
• Develop and maintain guidance materials, authorship‑rights policies, and journal‑selection resources.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA‑accredited institution.
• Minimum four years of academic librarian experience covering copyright, open access, repository metadata, and information literacy.
• Proven ability to explain complex publishing and legal concepts to non‑specialist audiences.
• Strong organizational, project‑management and communication skills.

Required skills

• Expertise in technologies that preserve and disseminate scholarly works (e.g., repository platforms).
• Deep knowledge of metadata standards related to open‑access publishing.
• Experience with research metrics and scholarly communication best practices.
