SCMS Testing Engineer

About the role

Toshiba Europe Ltd is hiring an SCMS Testing Engineer in Abu Dhabi. The role covers testing, verification, validation, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance of SCMS systems in electrical substations, ensuring reliable operation of substation automation, monitoring, control and communication systems in line with project specifications and utility standards. The engineer interfaces with utilities, clients, project consultants, subcontractors and suppliers, and with Toshiba's project engineering, management team and manufacturing units.

Key responsibilities

• Review SCMS architecture, database, signal lists, SLDs and engineering documents.
• Develop and run method statements, FAT and SAT procedures.
• Verify SCMS database, HMI graphics, alarms, events, logs and reports.
• Validate IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-103, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus, DNP3 and other protocols.
• Perform end-to-end signal testing, point-to-point checks and I/O verification.
• Carry out pre-commissioning and commissioning, sequence of operation and interlocking tests.
• Maintain, diagnose faults and restore system functionality after modifications.
• Investigate hardware and software issues, carry out root cause analysis and attend client witness tests.
• Prepare support documents for energization and weekly site work reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience as an SCMS engineer in the energy and power industry in the GCC/UAE.
• Preferred: CISSP or equivalent certification, and factory training certificates from OEMs.

Required skills

• SCMS and SCADA systems, substation automation data communication protocols (IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-103, IEC 60870-5-104).
• Knowledge of legacy protocols, protection control systems, BCU, MU and RTU configuration and testing, Ethernet switch configuration, HMI development and verification, network troubleshooting.
• Cybersecurity awareness for substation systems and knowledge of IEC 62443.
• Added advantage: strong analytical and troubleshooting ability, independent site work, client-facing commissioning experience, understanding of power system operation, utility standards and HSE requirements.
