Second W/K Electrical Engineer – Cutter Suction Dredger

About the role

The Second W/K Electrical Engineer is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of all electrical, electronic, automation and instrumentation systems aboard a Cutter Suction Dredger. You will work closely with the Chief Engineer, Dredge Master and deck crew to keep the vessel running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and repair power generation, distribution, dredging electrical systems, propulsion auxiliaries and vessel automation.
• Execute planned preventive maintenance and corrective repairs using the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Diagnose faults on PLCs, VFDs, MCCs, switchboards, generators, motors, sensors, alarms and control systems.
• Support electrical systems for cutter drives, dredge pumps, jet pumps, spud systems, winches, hydraulic controls and auxiliary machinery.
• Monitor electrical load distribution, insulation integrity, protection devices and overall equipment health.
• Maintain emergency power, UPS units, batteries, navigation lights, communication gear and safety alarms.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, drawings, calibrations and spare‑part inventories.
• Ensure compliance with ISM Code, class and flag state regulations, and apply PTW, LOTO procedures before work.
• Supervise Electrical Ratings, trainees and contractors, and provide technical support during emergencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics & Automation Engineering.
• 5‑10 years of experience on dredgers or in heavy‑industry automation environments.
• Basic STCW certification and a valid medical fitness certificate.
