Senior Advisor - Safety, Health & Environment

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Advisor - Safety, Health & Environment to join its Abu Dhabi office. The role is a strategic leadership position that drives the development and implementation of safety, health and environmental programs, ensures compliance with UAE regulations and international standards, and mentors teams toward a proactive approach to risk management and environmental stewardship.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve organization-wide safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and programs aligned with UAE labour laws, OSHA standards and industry best practice.
• Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses across all operations, covering personnel safety, equipment integrity and environmental compliance.
• Design and oversee emergency response and crisis management plans for incidents such as chemical spills, equipment failures and workplace accidents.
• Maintain coordination protocols with UAE authorities and emergency services.
• Review project plans, specifications and procedures to identify and mitigate safety and environmental risks early.
• Deliver training on safety awareness, hazard recognition and emergency preparedness.
• Carry out regular audits, inspections and compliance reviews, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
• Integrate safety and environmental considerations into business decisions through collaboration with project managers and stakeholders.
• Analyze incident data and near-miss reports to drive continuous improvement.
• Mentor safety teams and stay current with evolving regulations and standards.
• Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership on safety performance, compliance and strategic recommendations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering, environmental science, occupational health and safety or a related engineering discipline.
• Advanced professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH or an equivalent internationally recognized qualification.
• Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in safety, health and environmental management, including at least 3 years in a senior advisory or leadership capacity.
• Proven experience in the UAE or Middle East, with knowledge of UAE labour laws and local compliance requirements.
