Senior Backend Engineer - Cloud to Edge

About the role

Analog is building the link between humans, cities and technology from a single office in Abu Dhabi. Its systems must move data cleanly between a big cloud backend and physical devices such as robots, sensors and edge equipment, often over flaky networks. The company is scaling fast and wants a senior engineer who can make the hard architectural calls at the cloud-to-edge boundary without relying on a large organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Architect backend systems that move data reliably between cloud and edge environments, across multiple network protocols, with real failure tolerance.
• Make the core design choices on containerization and cloud-to-edge deployment patterns for systems that keep working when the network fails.
• Work directly with the engineers building the physical and product side, defining the backend architecture before requirements are fully written.
• Diagnose and fix hard production issues such as latency, dropped connections and data consistency across unreliable links.
• Raise the technical bar for the rest of the backend team as the company scales.

Required profile

• 7+ years of backend experience, with real ownership of large-scale, in-production systems end to end.
• Proven track record of driving system design and architecture decisions, including trade-offs and pushback, not just implementing someone else's design.
• Experience with cloud services and edge compute, and with moving data reliably across multiple network protocols.
• Strong experience with containerized development and cloud-to-edge deployment patterns.
• Comfortable operating with ambiguity and making the call without a large team or a fixed process.

The company is an in-person team; remote, async setups are not offered.
