Senior Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical

About the role

The Senior Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical will lead commissioning activities on oil‑and‑gas projects, applying best practices to ensure safe and efficient start‑up of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems. You will act as a mentor for less‑experienced colleagues and collaborate closely with the client and project team.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the Commissioning Manager and support the Principal Commissioning Engineer in preparing deliverables.
• Conduct walk‑down inspections, punch‑listing, and testing of mechanical, electrical and instrument components on site.
• Develop and maintain commissioning manuals, start‑up spares lists, first‑fill and consumable procedures.
• Perform equipment system checks, functional testing, and resolve operational issues during commissioning, start‑up and performance testing.
• Supervise craft personnel during pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities.
• Coordinate activities with other engineers, construction/fabrication teams and the client to maintain positive relationships.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• 8–15 years of experience in oil & gas commissioning, preferably with a major contractor or consultant.
• Strong understanding of commissioning, completions and start‑up concepts.
