Senior Compliance Associate - Market Surveillance
Kraken
Job description
About the role
Kraken's Market Surveillance function detects, investigates and reports market abuse across its regulated trading venues, including spot crypto markets, crypto futures, tokenised equities, OTC markets and consumer trading. Several Senior Compliance Associates are being hired to run day-to-day surveillance, investigate what it uncovers and help build the programme as the business grows. The role is based in the UK, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Romania or Canada, with fluency in English.
Key responsibilities
- Review and dispose of surveillance alerts across regulated markets, recording the reasoning behind each decision clearly enough for another person to follow it.
- Carry out analytical reviews starting from trade and order data rather than from a system-generated alert.
- Investigate escalated behaviour end to end: gather the data, reconstruct what happened and write it up for senior compliance stakeholders.
- Assess referrals from across the business and externally, taking forward those that warrant it.
- Draft suspicious transaction and order reports and suspicious activity reports.
- Produce management information and regulatory reporting for the entities covered.
- Contribute to surveillance platform and tooling work, including bringing new products and data sources into scope and testing that detection works as intended.
- Use AI and automation tools to speed up evidence gathering and case reconstruction, with human judgement on the final call.
Required profile
- At least 2 years' experience in trade surveillance, market abuse investigation or trading conduct inside a regulated firm such as an exchange, broker-dealer, trading venue, bank or comparable business.
- Working knowledge of core market abuse typologies such as spoofing, layering, wash trading, insider dealing, front running and ramping.
- Experience reviewing and disposing of surveillance alerts and writing findings to a standard others can rely on.
- Clear, evidence-first written communication, since case files and escalations are sometimes read by auditors and regulators without you present.
- Comfort using generative AI and other automation tools while keeping the oversight required for regulated casework.
- Fluency in English; exposure to crypto-asset markets is welcomed but not required.
Required skills
- Nice to have: hands-on use of a surveillance platform such as Scila, Nasdaq SMARTS, Eventus or NICE Actimize.
- Nice to have: SQL or a similar query tool for evidence gathering.
- Nice to have: experience drafting suspicious transaction and order reports or suspicious activity reports, and electronic communications surveillance experience.
