Senior Computational Scientist – Trustworthy AI

About the role

ADIA Lab, an independent research institute in Abu Dhabi, is looking for a Senior Computational Scientist to lead its Trustworthy AI program. The role focuses on developing scientific foundations, methodologies, and tools that make AI systems explainable, robust, transparent, auditable, safe and reliable for high‑stakes applications.

Key responsibilities

• Expand and co‑lead a world‑class research program in Trustworthy AI, driving cross‑disciplinary projects that combine machine learning, statistics, causal inference, optimization and domain expertise.
• Develop novel methodologies for auditing, evaluating and validating AI systems, including large language models and foundation models.
• Conduct fundamental and applied research on AI interpretability, robustness to distribution shifts, adversarial attacks, uncertainty quantification and trustworthy deployment.
• Build and coordinate a collaborative research team, mentor junior scientists and post‑doctoral fellows, and foster strategic partnerships with universities, industry and government.
• Publish research in top venues, contribute to white papers and policy reports, and represent ADIA Lab at international conferences.
• Produce open‑source software, benchmark datasets and reproducible evaluation frameworks for the Trustworthy AI ecosystem.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, AI, Machine Learning, Computational Science or a related field.
• At least 5 years of post‑PhD research experience, with a proven record of leading research groups or multidisciplinary AI projects.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX.
• Experience with R, Git, Linux and scientific computing environments.
• Knowledge of high‑performance and distributed computing, cloud‑based AI training and inference platforms.
• Strong background in deep learning, foundation models, large language models, reinforcement learning and agent‑based AI systems.
• Expertise in statistical modeling, causal inference, optimization and uncertainty quantification.
