Senior Design Manager (Structures/Infrastructure)

About the role

Mace is delivering a major expansion programme in Dubai, turning a flagship development into a world-leading events and exhibitions destination. It is seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to lead the design development of major high-value car parking structure projects, taking the existing concept design through detailed design, procurement and construction. The role works closely with the senior project manager and the wider project leadership team, owning the multidisciplinary design process and ensuring the design is coordinated, buildable and aligned with programme and delivery requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee design management of major car parking projects from concept through detailed design and construction.
• Manage the transition from concept design to coordinated, procurement- and construction-ready design information.
• Manage multidisciplinary design consultants across architecture, structural, civil, MEP, transport, fire and life safety, and specialist systems.
• Establish and manage design programmes, deliverables, responsibilities and review gateways.
• Drive coordination between disciplines, resolve design clashes, technical issues and package interfaces, and consider buildability, sequencing, logistics, procurement strategy and construction methodology.
• Lead design reviews, technical workshops, constructability reviews and value engineering exercises.
• Manage interfaces with surrounding roads, utilities, infrastructure, public realm and adjacent development packages.
• Provide design input into procurement packages, tender documentation and contractor selection, and review contractor and specialist subcontractor design submissions during construction.
• Work with project, planning and commercial teams to identify design risks affecting programme, cost or procurement; manage design changes and maintain technical governance and approvals.
• Coordinate BIM and digital design processes, support authority approvals and incorporate statutory requirements.
• Maintain design oversight through construction until completion and handover.

Required profile

• Degree qualified in architecture or a relevant built-environment discipline; professional membership or chartership is advantageous.
• Significant experience in design management on major, complex projects, ideally within a PMC, consultancy, developer or Tier 1 contractor environment.
• Strong experience taking projects from concept/schematic design through detailed design and construction.
• Experience with large parking structures, podiums, transport facilities, major concrete structures or similar complex buildings is highly advantageous.
• Previous UAE or GCC project experience preferred.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of structural, architectural, civil and MEP coordination.
• Good understanding of procurement, construction methodology, buildability and contractor-led design.
• BIM and design coordination capability, managing multiple design consultants and specialist designers.
