Senior Engineer – Composite Materials

About the role

EDGE is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer – Composite Materials to lead design, development, analysis, and qualification of advanced composite structures for next‑generation solid rocket motor systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and structural analysis of composite components for solid rocket motors, including motor cases, nozzle structures, thermal insulation and airframe parts.
• Develop and qualify manufacturing processes such as filament winding, hand lay‑up, tape winding and automated fiber placement (AFP).
• Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Classical Laminate Theory (CLT) assessments to validate designs and establish margins.
• Define and execute material qualification and testing plans in line with aerospace and defence standards.
• Collaborate with propulsion, thermal, mechanical, manufacturing and quality teams to ensure successful product integration.
• Support prototype builds, proof testing, hydrostatic and burst testing, and qualification campaigns.
• Mentor junior engineers and produce engineering specifications, documentation and technical reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials or Polymer Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in composite structures engineering within aerospace, defence, space or advanced manufacturing.
• Hands‑on experience with filament winding, hand lay‑up, AFP, ATL and tape winding processes.
• Proficiency with FEA tools such as Abaqus, Nastran, ANSYS or equivalents.
• Strong knowledge of composite materials, structural mechanics, CLT and failure analysis.
• Familiarity with ASTM, CMH‑17/MIL‑HDBK‑17 standards and aerospace quality requirements.
