Senior Engineer - Multi-Robot Systems Software & Simulation

About the role

The Autonomous Robotics Research Centre (ARRC) of the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) in Abu Dhabi is looking for a Senior Engineer to join its Multi-Robot Coordination team. The engineer acts as the architectural anchor, turning rapid prototypes and advanced algorithms into scalable, production-grade systems, and develops the middleware and core Sim-to-Real architecture to reduce testing effort across platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain scalable software architectures and middleware for multi-agent systems, and turn mathematical models and prototypes into production-ready code for embedded vehicles.
• Write efficient, readable C++/Python code and take part in peer reviews.
• Build and maintain high-fidelity simulation environments, own the Sim-to-Real pipeline and use field telemetry to improve simulation accuracy.
• Take part in physical field deployments and work with researchers and integration engineers to troubleshoot telemetry, network links and code on real hardware.
• Collaborate across teams on joint capabilities such as collaborative state estimation and cross-domain coordination.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Robotics, Control Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field.
• Proven experience bridging the Sim-to-Real gap in robotics, ideally in Multi-Robot Systems.
• Experience developing and scaling middleware architectures in the ROS2 ecosystem for multi-agent applications.
• Commitment to the End-to-End Ownership model, taking algorithms out of simulation and into field tests.

Required skills

• Strong C++ and/or Python, able to write production-grade code.
• High-fidelity robotics simulation (e.g. Gazebo, custom physics engines).
• Nice to have: hardware deployment, PX4/ArduPilot/Nav2/MOOS-IvP autopilots, CI/CD and Docker, and knowledge of network latency and cross-domain communication.
