Senior Hardware Engineer (PCB Design)

About the role

Advanced Concepts, an entity within EDGE, is hiring a Senior Hardware Engineer in Abu Dhabi. The company develops advanced autonomous systems, including medium-endurance high-altitude fixed-wing UAVs, loitering munitions, cruise missiles and guided artillery munitions. The role centres on PCB design, embedded systems and hardware testing.

Key responsibilities

• Design PCBs using Altium or similar software, covering schematic capture, component libraries, SPICE analysis and layout
• Design electronic safety and arming devices to military standards such as MIL-STD-1316
• Design with advanced chips such as FPGA, MCUs and DDR memory, and layout multilayer PCBs with blind-buried vias, via-in-pad, BGA and SMT/PTH components
• Design PCBs for harsh military environments and separate analog and digital domains to protect signal integrity
• Draw power system layouts including component placement, signal routing, power planes and thermal management
• Design for low EMI and noise through grounding, shielding and filtering, and mitigate ESD issues
• Generate BOMs, Gerber files and assembly drawings, and produce IPC and military-compliant documentation
• Mentor and train junior technical personnel
• Debug using soft logic analyzers, and test and troubleshoot hardware with oscilloscopes and logic analysers

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
• At least 8 years of experience in VHDL code writing
• Track record of successful PCB design in a defense context
• Proven ability to troubleshoot hardware on PCB prototypes
