Senior Material Science Engineer

About the role

EDGE’s Advanced Concepts unit is seeking a Senior Engineer in Material Science to lead material research and development for high‑technology missile systems. You will drive material selection, testing, and failure analysis to ensure optimal performance and reliability of critical defense components.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive research to identify and evaluate materials for missile components, considering mechanical, thermal, and chemical requirements.
• Design and oversee testing procedures, ensuring materials meet stringent specifications and standards.
• Perform failure analysis and root‑cause investigations, recommending material improvements or design modifications.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Plan and manage laboratory operations to develop cost‑effective material and fabrication processes.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and aerodynamic teams to integrate materials into missile designs.
• Ensure compliance with quality standards and implement rigorous quality control measures.
• Deliver internal and external training on coating and energy‑absorption materials.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in polymer and coating technologies.
• At least 4 years in a senior engineering role within a large corporate environment.
• Master’s or PhD in Polymer Technology or a related field.
• Proven experience in research, development, and analytical testing of advanced materials.
