Senior Piping Designer (SP3D)

About the role

Wood is looking for an experienced Senior Piping Designer (SP3D) in Abu Dhabi to support engineering and construction projects for a high-profile client. The role centres on creating detailed piping design layouts and 3D models with SmartPlant 3D (SP3D) software, covering concept, front end engineering development, technical study and detailed design.

Key responsibilities

• Create accurate piping design layouts and 3D models with SP3D, and prepare sketches, piping drawings and designs from agreed work scopes with minimal input from engineering personnel.
• Ensure designs meet project requirements and comply with industry standards, codes and regulations.
• Maintain design documentation such as specifications, isometrics and piping plans, and carry out reviews and quality checks.
• Carry out site surveys and execute design and draughting activities while keeping to the agreed budget and schedule.
• Assess working practices and systems, maintain a filing system, and act as a focal point for self-checking and checking others' work.
• Provide technical assistance to discipline colleagues and help the Lead / Senior Engineer when requested.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 15+ years of experience.
• Offshore experience is mandatory; good all-round knowledge of piping design with brownfield offshore experience.
• Aware of and able to use codes of practice, standards and COMPANY and CLIENT standards.
• Computer literate (databases and spreadsheets) and able to accept delegated responsibility.

Required skills

• Manual and CAD draughting techniques.
• Software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• 3D software such as SP3D.
• Ability to create base design drawings and models from agreed work scope with minimal guidance.
