Senior Power Electronics Engineer

About the role

The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will lead the design, development, testing and optimisation of advanced power electronic systems for aerospace and defence applications. You will work on next‑generation power conversion technologies, ensuring solutions are reliable, efficient and meet stringent safety and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC converters, inverters, rectifiers and motor‑drive systems.
• Select and size power semiconductors, magnetics, capacitors and protection devices.
• Create electrical schematics, PCB layouts and wiring diagrams using Altium Designer.
• Develop control algorithms for power conversion and motor control, including PWM and advanced modulation techniques.
• Evaluate emerging SiC and GaN semiconductor technologies and integrate them into novel topologies.
• Model and validate system behaviour with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS and LTspice.
• Perform HIL testing, ensure EMC compliance and optimise thermal performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in power electronics design and development.
• Strong knowledge of power conversion topologies, switching devices and digital control platforms.
• Proven track record with motor drives, variable frequency drives and battery energy storage systems.

• Power converter design (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC, resonant converters).
• Motor‑drive and VFD design.
• Component selection for semiconductors, magnetics and protection devices.
• PCB layout using Altium Designer.
• Control algorithm development (PWM, Field Oriented Control, torque control).
• SiC and GaN device integration.
• Modelling with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, LTspice.
• HIL testing, EMC compliance and thermal system design.
