Job description
About the role
The Senior Power Pack Design Engineer leads the design, development and optimisation of hydraulic power pack systems and their integration with vehicle chassis and related systems. The role turns technical specifications and customer requirements into safe, reliable and manufacturable designs, guiding work from concept and calculations through drawing release, prototype validation and production support. It sits in the Chassis Manufacturing Division in Dubai.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and optimise hydraulic power pack designs and select and size pumps, motors, reservoirs, filters, coolers, valves, manifolds, piping and instrumentation.
- Prepare and verify engineering calculations, hydraulic schematics, 3D models, assembly drawings, bills of materials and design specifications.
- Finalise the integration of engine, cooling, transmission, brake and axle systems within the chassis, assessing packaging, routing, material selection, weight, manufacturability and cost.
- Review and approve designs, drawings and calculations prepared by engineers reporting to the role, and set design practices, drawing standards and revision control.
- Identify design risks and interface issues early, and oversee prototype builds, commissioning and testing, including test plans for performance, durability, reliability and safety.
- Review test and field data, investigate failures and implement design changes, and monitor new technology to improve performance and lifecycle cost.
- Coordinate with product development, manufacturing, procurement, suppliers and quality assurance, confirm compliance with standards and safety requirements, and prepare technical documentation.
- Report regularly on design progress, risks, resource needs and performance to the Line Manager and Director.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics or a closely related discipline; a postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
- Typically 8 or more years of design engineering experience, including responsibility for hydraulic power packs, mobile equipment or vehicle system integration.
- Experience designing or integrating hydraulic systems and working with engine, cooling, transmission, brake and axle interfaces in a chassis or comparable platform.
- Experience reviewing engineering work and giving technical guidance to engineers or design teams.
Required skills
- Proficiency with 3D CAD and engineering drawing tools; hydraulic design or simulation software experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacture and assembly, tolerance management, materials, failure analysis and product safety.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and engineering standards and turn them into verified design requirements.
- Clear technical communication, sound decision-making and organisation of multiple design activities, engineering changes and project deadlines.
