Senior Software Engineer - Protection

About the role

This senior backend engineering position focuses on building and scaling the core systems that power a global payments platform. You will work on highly distributed, performance‑critical services where reliability, security and scalability are built in by design. The role is remote‑first, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑impact features for merchants worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development of core backend services for distributed, high‑performance systems.
• Own critical architectural decisions to ensure long‑term scalability and operational excellence.
• Write clean, well‑tested, maintainable code using modern practices such as TDD and BDD.
• Partner with product, engineering and other teams to deliver impactful features in a fast‑paced environment.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and continuously improve engineering standards and workflows.
• Produce clear technical documentation to support team alignment and system understanding.

Required profile

• Strong experience designing, building and maintaining complex backend systems in distributed environments.
• Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from design to production operations.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, take ownership of complex technical problems and collaborate effectively in remote teams.
• Prior exposure to payments or financial infrastructure is highly valuable.

Required skills

• Python (strong advantage) and proficiency with modern backend languages.
• Design and implementation of APIs and developer‑facing frameworks.
• Experience with distributed systems, reliability and scalability patterns.
• Test‑driven development (TDD) and behavior‑driven development (BDD).
