Senior System Engineer - Stability & Control

About the role

ADASI, the regional leader in autonomous systems and services within EDGE, is looking for a Senior System Engineer for Stability and Control. The engineer analyses, models, designs and validates flight dynamics, stability and control for ADASI's unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), ensuring that platform-level control characteristics meet operational, safety and regulatory requirements. The role defines aerodynamic control effectiveness, handling qualities and flight safety margins across multiple mission profiles.

Key responsibilities

• Perform longitudinal, lateral and directional stability analyses using linear and non-linear models across UAV flight regimes, and define control surface sizing, actuator response and control authority.
• Evaluate natural modes, handling qualities and stability margins throughout the flight envelope and all phases of flight.
• Develop 6-DOF flight dynamics models in MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent, and support the design and tuning of autopilot control laws (PID, LQR, gain-scheduling).
• Define and run verification and validation strategies through simulation, hardware-in-the-loop and flight tests, and analyse flight test data.
• Support wind tunnel, ground and flight testing, including pre- and post-flight predictions.
• Work with aerodynamics, flight controls, avionics, mechanical and software teams, and contribute to airworthiness assessments, safety analysis and certification documents (handling qualities per MIL-F-8785C or similar).
• Maintain technical documentation and comply with CS-UAS, MIL-STD-1797 and internal ADASI/EDGE standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Flight Mechanics, Control Systems Engineering or equivalent (required); Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in flight stability, dynamics and control systems in aerospace or UAV applications.
• Experience with UAVs, fixed-wing, VTOL or hybrid platforms preferred.
• English proficiency required.

Required skills

• Flight dynamics and control modeling in MATLAB/Simulink, X-Plane or FlightGear.
• Control system design and tuning (classical and modern methods).
• Stability and control tools such as AVL, XFOIL, Athena Vortex Lattice or equivalents.
• Familiarity with MIL-F-8785C, MIL-HDBK-1797, CFD and mass property data integration.
• PREFERRED: INCOSE ASEP or CSEP, control systems/UAV dynamics certification, AS9100D or ISO 9001 awareness.
