Senior Systems Engineer - UAV Ground Control Station

About the role

EDGE, an advanced technology group headquartered in the UAE, is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer for its UAV Ground Control Station (GCS) team in Abu Dhabi. The engineer leads the architecture, design, integration, verification and lifecycle support of secure, mission-critical UAV GCS systems, working across hardware, networking, RF communications, C2, telemetry, rugged computing and ground-to-air integration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead GCS system architecture, design and integration, defining requirements, interfaces, ICDs, network topology and data flows.
• Integrate RF, SATCOM, LTE/5G, Wi-Fi, modems and UAV datalinks, and integrate computing, networking, power, HMI and ruggedized hardware.
• Ensure seamless ground-to-air, hardware-software, C2, telemetry and video integration.
• Lead verification, validation, environmental, RF and EMI/EMC testing, and conduct hardware bring-up, debugging and troubleshooting.
• Support SRR, PDR, CDR and TRR, manage technical risks and prepare specifications, network diagrams, BOMs, test reports and documentation.
• Mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Systems, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• 7-12+ years of experience in aerospace, defence, UAV/UAS, robotics or mission-critical systems.
• Strong experience in GCS hardware architecture, embedded systems, networking, RF communications and system integration.
• Experience with Ethernet/IP, CAN, UART, SPI and related interfaces; with rugged computing, power systems and operator consoles.
• Familiarity with DOORS/Jama or similar requirements management tools.
• English proficiency required.

Preferred qualifications

• Masters degree in Aerospace/System Engineering or a related discipline.
• Tactical communications, secure networking, multi-link aggregation, BVLOS operations, secure C2 architectures and MBSE.
• MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, DO-160, DO-254, EMI/EMC, thermal and reliability testing.
• STANAG/NATO interoperability standards, especially STANAG 4586.
• Cybersecurity requirements for mission-critical systems.
