Senior Systems Engineer – UAV Systems

About the role

The Senior Systems Engineer will lead the creation of a Systems Engineering framework for an existing UAV platform, covering requirements, architecture, integration, risk, and verification. The role is hands‑on, collaborating with avionics, software, flight‑control, mechanical, manufacturing and flight‑test teams while introducing structured SE practices.

Key responsibilities

• Map the current UAV development process and establish a practical SE lifecycle from stakeholder needs through design, integration, V&V, release and operational feedback.
• Develop and maintain stakeholder, system, subsystem, interface and derived requirements with bidirectional traceability.
• Create functional, logical and physical system architectures and define system boundaries, functional decomposition, subsystem allocation and interface control documents.
• Establish a Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix linking requirements to verification methods, test cases, results and evidence.
• Support system integration and V&V from component bench testing through SIL/HIL, ground and flight testing.
• Implement basic configuration and change‑control processes, including baselines, change requests, impact analysis and CCB support.
• Conduct system‑level trade studies, FHA, FMEA/FMECA, FTA and technical risk/safety analyses.
• Set up SE templates, naming conventions, review checklists and engineering records, and administer the initial MBSE/traceability toolchain.
• Mentor the Junior Systems Engineer and review their deliverables.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of Systems Engineering or multidisciplinary product‑development experience, with at least 3 years in aerospace, UAV, robotics, autonomous or defense systems.
• Hands‑on experience with multidisciplinary hardware/software systems and taking systems through multiple lifecycle stages.
• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, aeronautical, electrical/electronics, mechanical, mechatronics, Systems Engineering or related field; Master’s degree or INCOSE ASEP/CSEP preferred.

• PLM tools (Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, Aras Innovator) – preferred.
• Git/version control.
• Familiarity with SIL/HIL testing and system‑level testing.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO‑178C, DO‑254 – desirable.
