Senior Traffic Signal Timing Optimization Specialist (Remote UAE)

About the role

A fully remote, 100% work-from-home position for a Senior Traffic Signal Timing Optimization Specialist, based in the United Arab Emirates. The role supports the analysis, development and optimization of traffic signal timing plans for urban road networks, intersections and coordinated corridors, improving traffic flow, reducing congestion and enhancing road safety through traffic data analysis, simulation-based evaluation and technical reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimize signal timing plans for isolated intersections, coordinated corridors and complex urban networks.
• Analyze traffic volumes, turning movements, queue lengths, travel times, delays and intersection performance data.
• Evaluate cycle lengths, green splits, offsets, phase sequences and clearance intervals.
• Run coordination assessments and use simulation software to test alternative timing strategies under different demand scenarios.
• Support adaptive signal control assessments and pedestrian, cyclist, public transport and emergency vehicle priority strategies.
• Review operations data to find congestion patterns and capacity constraints, and run before-and-after performance assessments.
• Prepare timing plans, technical reports, simulation summaries and implementation documentation.
• Collaborate remotely with traffic engineers, planners, road authorities and ITS specialists, and support studies, design reviews and assessments in line with applicable standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil, Transportation or Traffic Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant professional experience in traffic signal timing, intersection operations or traffic engineering.
• Experience developing and evaluating signal timing plans for urban intersections and coordinated networks.
• Knowledge of traffic flow theory, intersection capacity analysis, signal coordination and the Highway Capacity Manual.
• Ability to analyze traffic datasets, turning movement counts, travel time surveys and detector data.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing and presentation skills; ability to manage multiple projects and work with distributed teams.

Required skills

• Traffic simulation and optimization tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, PTV Vissim, TRANSYT or equivalent.
• Signal timing optimization methodologies and traffic performance measures.
• Intelligent transportation systems and adaptive signal control.
