Sommelier – The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal

About the role

The Sommelier will lead the wine program at The Ritz‑Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal, ensuring an exceptional beverage experience for guests. You will work closely with the restaurant team, guests and wine suppliers to curate, present and serve a world‑class wine selection.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate with guests to answer questions on wine origin, vintage and style, and recommend pairings that complement menu items.
• Create, update and maintain the wine list, including pricing, descriptions and seasonal selections.
• Develop relationships with vendors, attend tastings, and source new wines and products.
• Design and implement wine promotions, incentive programmes and staff tasting events.
• Monitor and replenish wine cellar inventory, conduct vintage and BIN checks, and ensure proper storage using FIFO principles.
• Perform opening and closing duties, maintain cleanliness of equipment and storage areas, and complete scheduled inventories.
• Serve wine and champagne, secure liquor storage, and comply with all local alcohol service regulations.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling and performance coaching of the beverage team.
• Uphold safety, security and hospitality standards, including assistance for guests with disabilities.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Sommelier or Wine Steward in a luxury hotel or fine‑dining environment.
• Deep knowledge of global wine regions, vintages, styles and food‑pairing principles.
• Excellent communication and guest‑service skills with a professional appearance.
• Ability to work collaboratively with kitchen, service and management teams.
• Strong organisational skills for inventory control and event planning.
