Sonographer

About the role

Mesk Al Madina Medical Centre in Abu Dhabi is hiring a Sonographer. The role involves performing sonography imaging procedures independently or under the supervision of a senior Sonographer or Radiologist, analysing the images for diagnostic evaluation and reporting to the supervisor as needed, in line with facility protocols and professional standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all sonography imaging procedures according to departmental policies, procedures and protocols, using knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
• Acquire additional images when needed to give the interpreting physician the best diagnostic results, and assess image quality, appropriateness and completeness.
• Forward images to the Radiologist for review and reporting, and provide a preliminary report of each examination.
• Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging, liaise with the radiologist on further imaging or tests, and perform advanced sonography services or other delegated tasks.
• Keep adequate stock of supplies and equipment, report shortages and maintain records for ordering and replenishment.
• Use ultrasound equipment safely and competently, report incidents and faults promptly, and operate advanced software such as Doppler scans.
• Maintain a clean, tidy workspace, restock supplies, clean equipment and advise medical and technical staff on techniques.
• Handle patients' and clinical staff's initial enquiries, enter data correctly into the Hospital Information System and upload images to the PACS system.

Required profile

• Valid DOH/DHA license or passed DOH exam as Sonographer, and a valid home-country license.
• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Sonography/Diagnostic Ultrasound from an accredited programme (at least 3-year syllabus), or graduation from an accredited Radiography programme (at least 2-year syllabus).
• At least 2-3 years of experience as a Sonographer in a hospital setting, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynaecology and abdominal sonography; dedicated courses in specialized sonography imaging are preferred.
• Fluent spoken and written English; spoken Arabic is an advantage but not essential.
• Self-motivated, able to work under pressure, adaptable, confident in stressful situations, and with good time management.
