Staff Nurse, Acute Care (In-Patient) - Orthopedics

About the role

A new Orthopedic Service Line is looking for experienced orthopedic nurses with recent orthopedic experience to join its team. The nurse provides general and specialized direct and indirect patient care on the acute care unit, applying evidence-based nursing practices to patients of all ages, and demonstrates competence in the behavioral, growth, development and psychosocial needs of patients.

Key responsibilities

• Complete timely patient admissions and ongoing assessments, and update the plan of care according to each patient's needs
• Provide direct care and evaluate outcomes, incorporating family-centered care
• Monitor and document patients' condition and the effectiveness of care and interventions
• Assess the educational needs of patients and significant others, taking cultural needs into account, and provide teaching and validate understanding
• Administer prescribed medications using barcode scanning and carry out prescribed treatments in line with approved policies and protocols
• Use knowledge of one's own role and the roles of other professions to meet patients' healthcare needs
• Adhere to evidence-based protocols, report practice changes supported by evidence, and participate in evaluating patient outcomes
• Delegate parts of the nursing care plan to other team members and maintain confidentiality while respecting patient rights
• Incorporate the CCAD Professional Practice model and patient safety principles, and report errors and near-misses
• Complete charge capture education and in-service training; capture charges manually in Epic within 24 business hours when they are not captured automatically

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification
• Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in a tertiary hospital acute care unit setting
• Recent orthopedic experience
