Staff Nurse - Primary Care Infectious Diseases

About the role

American Hospital Dubai is hiring a Staff Nurse for its Primary Care Infectious Diseases unit. The nurse provides direct patient care to adults and geriatric populations, coordinates patient care activities and carries out diagnostic and point-of-care testing.

Key responsibilities

• Provide age-specific, patient-centred care using the nursing process, with continual assessment of physical and psychological needs
• Perform patient assessments, coordinate and plan care, revise care plans and initiate transfer plans
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, document in the medical record and maintain supplies and equipment
• Handle narcotic and controlled drugs safely and complete unit competencies such as pain management and emergency device use
• Take part in quality improvement, staff meetings, unit committees and mandatory education (fire, safety, infection control)
• Perform diagnostic tests: nasal swabs for Influenza A and B and respiratory viral panel, POC rapid strep tests, colour vision and visual acuity tests, assist with Pap smear swabs and support earwax removal

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (3 years full-time) or a nursing degree (2 years), registered nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia; UAE nationals are exempt from experience and clinical training requirements
• Valid license to practice in the home country or last place of employment
• Minimum of 2 years of recent post-graduate experience in a primary care setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is listed as essential
