Staff Software Engineer – Dubai

About the role

As a Staff Software Engineer at talabat, you will operate across team, domain, chapter and the wider tech organization, providing technical leadership, mentorship and driving complex initiatives that impact multiple teams.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the voice of your chapter, guiding teams on technical direction and delivering hands‑on mentorship.
• Drive critical, cross‑team initiatives, simplify complex systems and remove bottlenecks.
• Partner with senior engineering, product and data leaders to improve architecture and processes, including leading RFC reviews.
• Contribute to chapter vision, sponsor key initiatives and orchestrate mentorship across the tech org.
• Enhance overall developer experience through tooling, hiring and process improvements.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in an Extreme Programming environment (TDD, pair programming, continuous refactoring).
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and build large‑scale applications.
• Strong communication skills, empathy and a growth mindset.
• Deep understanding of lean/agile values and practices.

Required skills

• Modern programming languages: C#, Java, Go.
• Distributed systems architecture: microservices, event‑driven and RESTful services.
• Experience with relational and non‑relational databases.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, Google Cloud, Azure.
• Automated end‑to‑end testing, TDD, pair programming.
• Trunk‑based development and continuous delivery pipelines.
