Structural Engineer – Civil Design & Estimation

About the role

Shafa Group is hiring a Structural Engineer for its Head Office in Dubai, within the Building Division. The role combines civil design and estimation, covering structural design, quantity take-offs, BOQ preparation and tendering. The ideal candidate has strong experience in these areas within the construction industry.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review structural designs, calculations and engineering drawings for building and civil construction projects.
• Perform structural analysis and design for reinforced concrete and steel structures.
• Prepare quantity take-offs, Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and detailed cost estimates.
• Review tender documents, drawings and specifications, and prepare material quantities, rate analyses and cost breakdowns for tender submissions.
• Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, consultants and project teams to resolve technical issues.
• Evaluate materials and alternative design solutions to optimise costs.
• Ensure compliance with design codes, standards and project specifications.
• Support the tendering team in preparing technical and commercial proposals.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; a degree in Structural Engineering is an advantage.
• Minimum 10-12 years of GCC experience in structural design and estimation.
• Proven experience in BOQ preparation, quantity take-offs, cost estimation and tendering.
• Ability to interpret structural drawings, technical specifications and contractual documents.
• Preferred: experience in building construction and commercial projects, and ability to handle both design and estimation independently.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete and structural steel design.
• Proficiency in structural design software such as ETABS, STAAD.Pro or SAFE.
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Excel or other estimation tools.
• Analytical, numerical, coordination and problem-solving skills, with good written and verbal communication.
