Technical Principal - Ports and Maritime

About the role

SJ Group is looking for a Technical Principal in Ports and Maritime for its Dubai office. The role builds the firm's reputation as an innovative, technically excellent consultant and provides technical risk governance to proposals and projects, acting in a capacity similar to Proposal/Project Director.

Key responsibilities

• Build the firm's reputation for innovation, technical excellence, quality and project delivery.
• Provide technical risk and opportunity governance to proposals and projects to ensure reliable performance in sophistication, timeliness and quality.
• Support management in leading technical staff, ensuring cohesion, performance, resourcing, retention and professional development.
• Support sustainable business growth through client relationship management and business development.
• Manage risk on substantial projects, deliver client outcomes with cost savings, and bring in new business.
• Prepare high-level technical reports and successful proposals on medium to large projects, and manage the scope and risk of multiple complex projects.
• Lead, supervise and coach other staff, and engage key stakeholders to meet or exceed client expectations.

Required profile

• At least 20 years of professional industry experience.
• Recognised international profile as a leader in ports and maritime, sought after at industry forums.
• Proven ability to provide key technical expertise across high-profile projects and to work independently on complex tasks.
• Experience building technical capability in others and managing client relationships and expectations.

Required skills

• Demonstrated leadership, high-level technical knowledge and project management skills.
• Business planning, budgeting and commercial acumen.
• High-level consulting and client management skills.
• Understanding of the business context of business solutions and good client service orientation.
• National and international industry awareness and market knowledge.
• Proficiency in relevant computer programs and familiarity with the firm's business systems, including project management, WHS management and CRM principles.
