Technical Principal / Tunnel Design Manager

About the role

This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead tunnel design and pre‑construction activities for a leading infrastructure consultancy in Dubai. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager and senior leadership to ensure technical excellence and client satisfaction across complex tunnelling projects.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the Project Manager and review all procurement, manufacturing, construction, testing and commissioning submissions.
• Assist the Project Manager on all relevant technical matters.
• Review and comment on contractors' temporary works and detailed erection proposals.
• Lead pre‑construction design, design review during construction, and coordination of all tunnelling activities.
• Provide technical assistance to project teams and clients.
• Prepare schematic, detailed and tendering drawings, as well as feasibility studies for tunnelling works.
• Determine appropriate FIDIC contract packages and finalize construction planning.
• Assign tasks as directed by the Executive Director and Country Manager.
• Ensure all works comply with specifications and standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience on tunnelling projects in advanced economies.
• At least 16 years total professional experience, including 5 years in pre‑construction tunnel design or management.
• BSc in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• Proven record of supervising and managing pre‑construction, construction and post‑construction phases of tunnel projects.
• Experience with internationally funded projects (e.g., ADB, JICA, World Bank).
