Telecom Engineer – Brownfield Substation Project (5‑Month Contract)

About the role

This is a short‑term, 5‑month contract position based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, supporting a brownfield electrical substation project. The Telecom Engineer will lead site surveys and design activities, defining secure communication requirements for utility and substation environments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform site surveys and assessments of telecom systems within transmission and substation facilities.
• Define and document telecom infrastructure requirements for new and existing substation projects.
• Design secure communication architectures that meet operational and business needs.
• Develop and review engineering deliverables, reports, drawings and technical specifications.
• Design and support implementation of MPLS networks, VLAN configurations, firewalls, VPN solutions and 4G/5G communication systems.
• Coordinate telecom scope with multidisciplinary teams including Electrical, SCADA and Cybersecurity.
• Provide technical support during design reviews, equipment provisioning and project execution phases.
• Identify risks, propose mitigation measures and ensure compliance with utility standards and cybersecurity policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in telecommunications engineering, preferably on electrical transmission or substation projects.
• Proven experience with industrial WAN/LAN architectures and secure communication systems.
• Strong technical documentation, reporting and stakeholder‑management skills.
