AI Backend Engineer

About the role

Deel is looking for an AI Backend Engineer to accelerate feature development using AI tools while delivering high‑quality, production‑grade backend solutions. You will work in a fast‑paced, globally distributed environment, helping to build scalable services that support millions of users across 150+ countries.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, designers, and QA to translate requirements into robust backend features.
• Leverage AI coding assistants such as Claude to generate boilerplate code, scaffolding, and accelerate development cycles, reviewing all AI‑generated code before release.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, monitor, and iterate on APIs, databases, and infrastructure components.
• Identify and resolve bugs quickly while maintaining high standards for code quality and performance.
• Communicate technical constraints and solutions clearly to non‑technical stakeholders and unblock cross‑functional teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a backend or software engineer.
• Proven track record shipping AI‑enhanced products and handling production issues at scale.
• Strong experience with NodeJS or Python and a solid grasp of SQL and NoSQL concepts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in remote, asynchronous team settings.
