Artificial Intelligence Intern – Abu Dhabi (2‑month)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a motivated Artificial Intelligence Intern to join its Gulf Area Office in Abu Dhabi for a two‑month assignment. The intern will support UNICEF’s work on AI governance, child protection, and humanitarian response across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

Key responsibilities

• Compile and analyse existing models of UNICEF engagement with GCC governments on AI.
• Research and propose new models for collaboration, focusing on governance, convening, and evidence generation.
• Contribute technical expertise to the development of AI laws, strategies, and child‑digital‑safety regulations.
• Facilitate dialogue between sovereign AI investors, child‑protection actors, and UNICEF to co‑produce Gulf‑specific evidence.
• Co‑design child‑centred AI solutions that can be scaled through UNICEF’s global network and partnered funding mechanisms.
• Explore the use of AI in humanitarian settings and emergency response while safeguarding children’s rights.

Required profile

• Current university student or recent graduate in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Law).
• Strong interest in artificial intelligence, child rights, and public policy.
• Excellent research, analytical, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
