Assistant Professor - Aerospace Engineering

About the role

The university is recruiting an Assistant Professor in Aerospace Engineering. The post combines teaching undergraduates and/or graduates, research and scholarly or creative work, and university, community and professional service.

Key responsibilities

• Teach at undergraduate and graduate level on schedules set by the Department Chair, prepare course outlines, syllabi and lesson plans, and contribute to curriculum development
• Provide students with detailed syllabi, methods of instruction and evaluation, select textbooks and teaching aids, and monitor performance with remedial classes when needed
• Set and mark exams, coursework, assignments, lab work and homework, use up-to-date instructional technology, and supervise student research, practical work and thesis preparation
• Carry out research and publish, deliver papers at conferences, bid for external funding and grants, and raise the Department and Faculty profile
• Collaborate with colleagues on research and consultancy, and take part in departmental and faculty seminars
• Contribute to working groups and committees, support student recruitment, retention and placement, and foster community service
• Take part in peer review, editorial roles and outreach, and follow information security and confidentiality policies

Required profile

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and proven research potential
• PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a related discipline from a recognised institution
• BSc or equivalent terminal degree in Aerospace Engineering is strongly preferable
• Strongly preferred: research or teaching in composite structures, automatic flight controls, space mechanics, dynamics, control and vehicle autonomy, or fixed-wing unmanned aerial systems (UAS)
• Preferred: experience in emerging areas such as AI/ML applications in aerospace systems
