Associate Director – Mechanical Engineering

About the role

This senior position moves you from delivering projects to shaping them. You will lead high‑value MEP projects, build and develop a high‑performance engineering team, and work closely with senior leadership to influence strategy and business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of engineers, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Act as the technical authority on MEP projects, guiding design and delivery.
• Manage projects end‑to‑end, ensuring they meet client expectations, timelines and budgets.
• Build strong relationships with internal teams, clients and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to commercial performance, including fee proposals and project profitability.
• Participate in office leadership and broader business strategy.
• Ensure health, safety and compliance standards are consistently met.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, chartered status preferred.
• Extensive experience in mechanical building services design within an MEP consultancy.
• Proven track record leading complex, multi‑disciplinary projects.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage budgets and profitability.
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• In‑depth knowledge of relevant codes, standards and regulatory frameworks.
