Associate Professor - Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering (Energy)

About the role

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Khalifa University of Science and Technology is seeking an accomplished scholar to build an internationally competitive research program in renewable and sustainable energy and energy conversion. This is a full-time faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in Mechanical Engineering, based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Candidates with cross-disciplinary expertise in dynamics and control applied to energy systems are especially encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and sustain an independent, internationally competitive research program producing high-impact publications and patents.
• Attract external research funding, supervise graduate students and contribute to the department's research themes and the university's research priorities.
• Teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor students and develop courses in emerging areas of sustainable and renewable energy.
• Contribute to professional and institutional service, including curriculum development, accreditation and outreach.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited, reputable university.
• Strong record of high-impact publications in internationally recognized journals.
• Demonstrated potential to secure competitive research funding for Assistant Professor candidates, or a proven funding track record for Associate Professor candidates.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship.

Preferred expertise

• Deep expertise in renewable and sustainable energy or energy conversion, such as solar, wind or hybrid energy systems; fuel cells, batteries or thermal management; and sustainable power generation and storage.
• Research integrating dynamics, control or optimization into energy systems, such as renewable grids or microgrids, energy-conversion device dynamics, or AI-enabled control for sustainable infrastructure.
