AWS Data Engineer – Lakehouse & Glue

About the role

We are looking for an experienced AWS Data Engineer to join a large-scale cloud data transformation programme in Abu Dhabi. You will help migrate legacy source systems into a modern Lakehouse platform, building scalable ingestion pipelines and ensuring data is delivered securely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain AWS Glue jobs for ingesting data into the Bronze layer of a Lakehouse architecture, supporting CDC, full, delta and snapshot loads.
• Implement historical data migration, back-fill processes and reusable ETL pipelines using PySpark.
• Optimise Glue jobs through partitioning, parallelisation and resource allocation, collaborating with platform teams on performance standards.
• Support migration of legacy systems to the cloud, automating delivery with CI/CD pipelines (Git, Terraform) and ensuring version control.
• Maintain source system connectivity, enforce data-governance and quality standards, and produce technical documentation for hand-overs.
• Work closely with architects, platform engineers and data-quality teams, participating in Agile ceremonies and delivery planning.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, preferably in fast-paced transformation programmes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
• Experience in financial services or other highly regulated environments is a plus.

Required skills

• AWS Glue and PySpark.
• Lakehouse and Medallion design principles.
• CDC, incremental loading and historical migration techniques.
• AWS services: S3, Athena, Lambda.
• Git, Terraform and CI/CD deployment practices.
• Agile methodologies and Jira.
