Backend Engineer – Cloud‑Native Services

About the role

We are partnering with a leading UAE institution that is building a digital‑first, AI‑enabled financial services platform. As a Backend Engineer you will shape the core service layer, creating microservices, APIs and event‑driven solutions that power customer channels, AI agents and core banking integrations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain scalable microservices and APIs using modern backend practices.
• Build and maintain integrations and anti‑corruption layers for core banking, payments and treasury platforms.
• Develop event‑driven services with streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Create serving‑layer components, projections, read models and caching solutions for high‑volume customer and AI interactions.
• Implement secure, scalable APIs with proper controls, audit logging and governance.
• Contribute to automated testing, code reviews, observability, documentation and CI/CD best practices.

Required profile

• 6+ years of hands‑on backend engineering experience, preferably in banking, fintech or a regulated environment.
• Proven experience building and operating microservices and APIs in production.
• Strong background in event‑driven architectures and scalable backend systems.
• Experience with cloud‑native platforms, containers and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability and secure software development.
• Experience with AI‑assisted engineering tools is a plus.
