Backend Engineer - Java Spring Boot (Intermediate & Senior)

About the role

Sumara Technology is looking for a full-time Backend Engineer with Java Spring Boot experience, at intermediate and senior level. The role sits in a small squad that builds scalable backend systems and works with both front-end and back-end architecture for global users. The position is remote, based in the UAE, and the client is in the UK working UK hours, so some alignment in working hours is preferred.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable, reliable and secure backend services using Java Spring Boot.
• Implement and manage authentication and authorization with Spring Security.
• Integrate and manage message-driven systems using Kafka or similar tools.
• Develop and deploy applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Write unit, integration and performance tests to ensure code quality and system reliability.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and automated deployments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Work with architects, DevOps engineers and product teams, follow code quality and documentation best practices, and collaborate in agile cycles.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and working with microservices architectures.
• Strong understanding of system design, application security and scalable architectures.

• AWS cloud services
• SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and optionally NoSQL such as DynamoDB
• Git, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and agile development
