Backend Workflow Engineer

About the role

We are partnering with a leading organisation in Abu Dhabi to hire senior backend engineers who will design and build the core technology behind next‑generation enterprise products. You will work on sophisticated backend systems, business‑critical workflows, approval engines and enterprise integrations alongside talented AI and product teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain production‑grade backend services and APIs.
• Build complex workflow engines, state machines and multi‑stage approval processes.
• Implement long‑running transactional workflows with human approvals, exception handling and retry mechanisms.
• Integrate backend services with SAP/ERP and other enterprise applications.
• Design robust relational databases, data models and secure authentication/authorisation mechanisms.
• Develop asynchronous, event‑driven processing using queues, events and background jobs.
• Write automated tests, support CI/CD pipelines and ensure observability, reliability and maintainability in production.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Hands‑on experience with Python or Go (preferred); Java, C# or Node.js/TypeScript also acceptable.
• Proven track record of building and maintaining production APIs and services.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL and data modelling.
• Experience with asynchronous processing, event‑driven architectures and enterprise security.
