Bilingual Risk & Compliance Officer

About the role

A law firm is looking for a bilingual Risk & Compliance Officer based in Dubai, paid AED 23-30,000 per month. The postholder supports the Dubai and regional offices on risk, regulatory compliance and conflicts, and must be fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English. Candidates must currently reside in the UAE.

Key responsibilities

• Matter inception: on-board new clients and matters and check details against regulatory standards and firm policy
• Anti-money laundering: conduct client due diligence, review KYC documentation, run AML and sanctions searches and escalate issues to the MLRO
• Terms of engagement: help apply engagement terms uniformly and record client-imposed terms
• Ongoing monitoring: review changes to clients that affect risk and deal with them in line with regulations
• Matter maintenance: keep matter information accurate and up to date
• Firm policy: review and keep firm policies up to date
• Reporting: help produce spreadsheets tracking client and matter status and run weekly and monthly reports
• Confidentiality: help set up and amend information barriers and insider lists
• Other work: research and projects, assist Risk Lawyers with the annual internal audit, and support Revenue & Collections, Marketing and Conflicts teams

Required profile

• 1-4 years' experience in a compliance function within a law firm or professional services, preferably Big4
• Law degree or GDL qualification with some legal work experience
• AML experience
• Ability to work within a regulatory compliance framework and to build strong internal and external relationships
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
• Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic
• Currently residing in the UAE

Required skills

• High proficiency in MS Outlook, Word and Excel
• Analytical and organisational skills, managing multiple tasks and projects
