Bus Guardian

About the role

The Bus Guardian supports early years staff by assisting with classroom activities, safeguarding children and ensuring smooth transitions throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with lesson planning, assessment processes and manage books/files for individual children.
• Prepare materials and ICT equipment (computers, iPad, digital camera, DVD, Bee Bot) for lessons and group work.
• Lead and support groups of children or individuals with tasks, read stories and accompany them on visits.
• Comfort distressed or vulnerable children in line with safeguarding procedures.
• Prepare, tidy and display art and craft materials and children’s work.
• Supervise children during cloakroom use, playtimes and transition periods, including start and home times.
• Label, store and maintain equipment, laminate or photocopy resources as needed.
• Participate daily in the rota for playground supervision and transition monitoring.
• Maintain confidentiality of personal details and report incidents to the Teacher or Head of Early Years.
• Uphold the school’s professional reputation and adhere to safeguarding policies.

Required profile

• Minimum diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a school setting as a bus or teacher assistant.
• Commitment to safeguarding children and willingness to undergo vetting procedures.
• Ability to work collaboratively, maintain confidentiality and promote a safe, inclusive environment.
