Civil Structural Engineer

About the role

SML Engineering is hiring a Civil Structural Engineer to provide structural engineering expertise for civil construction works. The engineer ensures that structural designs, drawings and site execution comply with approved specifications, applicable codes and ADNOC requirements, and are delivered safely, on schedule and to quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review structural drawings, design calculations, specifications and technical submittals for accuracy and constructability.
• Support site teams by resolving technical issues, RFIs and design clarifications with consultants and the client.
• Coordinate civil subcontractor scopes to success approvals, and review and coordinate soil classification, investigations and reports, as well as roads and infrastructure works.
• Supervise and verify foundations, piling, concrete, reinforcement, formwork, precast and steel structures against approved drawings and standards.
• Prepare and review method statements, shop drawings and inspection and test plans, and coordinate material approvals and testing.
• Monitor progress, quality and HSE compliance, and prepare minutes of meetings and technical and progress reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in civil/structural engineering on construction projects, preferably large-scale, marine, coastal or island-based works.
• Valid ADNOC approval is required.
• Experience in UAE/GCC construction; ability to work on an island-based site, including any required safety and sea-transfer training.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of structural design and construction codes (ACI, BS EN, ASTM) and concrete, piling and steel structure requirements.
• Proficiency in structural software such as AutoCAD, ETABS/STAAD/SAFE or equivalent, and MS Office; BIM/Revit is an advantage.
• Technical judgment, problem-solving and coordination with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
