Coating, Painting and Insulation Inspector (Piping & Pipeline)

About the role

Bureau Veritas is looking for a Coating, Painting and Insulation Inspector for piping and pipeline projects in Abu Dhabi. The inspector reports to the Team Leader and works closely with the IND Manager, Project Manager, Technical Manager and clients, establishing direct contact with them. The role covers inspection of painting, coating and insulation operations.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve contractors' painting, coating and wrapping procedures.
• Inspect surface profile and chloride contamination tests as per applicable standards.
• Monitor weather and equipment condition during painting and coating operations.
• Check that approved paint manufacturers are used, coatings applied to manufacturer data sheets and approved specifications, and that proper intervals between intermediate coats are kept.
• Witness dry film thickness, holiday detection and pinhole detection, ensuring calibrated equipment is used.
• Monitor surface preparation, bonding agents, elastomers, wrapping and curing of riser pipes and clamps, and witness post-curing tests such as hardness, spark, sound, adhesion and visual checks.
• Monitor CTE coating, heat-shrink sleeves, holiday tests on field joints, and wrapping and holiday detection on offshore pipelines.
• Report daily inspections and non-conformities to the Team Leader and liaise regularly with clients and project consultants.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• For a 3-year diploma: more than 12 years of industrial QA/QC coating, painting and insulation experience; for a 10-year bachelor: more than 3 years.
• Oil and gas experience of at least 8 years for a diploma holder and 6 years for a bachelor graduate.
• 5 years of similar inspection experience and BGAS 2 or NACE 2 certification; familiarity with 3LPE coating systems for pipeline work.
• Site safety induction, H2S training and HSE induction for specific projects.

Required skills

• Knowledge of international codes and standards such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS.
• Painting and coating inspection according to relevant codes.
• Ability to apply codes, project specifications and procedures.
