Coating & Painting Inspector

About the role

The Coating & Painting Inspector will be responsible for ensuring all painting, coating and wrapping activities on offshore and onshore projects meet international codes, standards and client specifications. The role reports to the Team Leader and works closely with project managers, technical managers and clients.

Key responsibilities

• Review, comment and approve contractor painting, coating and wrapping procedures.
• Inspect surface preparation, profile, chloride contamination, and verify use of approved paint materials.
• Monitor weather, equipment condition and application of coatings according to manufacturer data‑sheets and project specifications.
• Witness and verify dry film thickness, holiday detection, hardness, spark, adhesion and visual tests.
• Prepare reports on non‑conformities, corrective actions and ensure compliance with inspection test plans.

Required profile

• Specialty certification such as NACE, CSWIP or British Gas Painting Inspector Grade II (or equivalent).
• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or HNC).
• Minimum 5 years experience in painting/coating inspection (8–10 years for senior engineer level).
• Strong knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, BS).

Required skills

• NACE, CSWIP, British Gas Painting certification.
• Proficiency with surface profile testing, chloride contamination testing, dry film thickness measurement and holiday detection.
• Familiarity with hardness, spark, adhesion and visual inspection techniques.
• Ability to interpret and apply ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS standards.
