Construction Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Construction Accountant to manage financials for multiple building projects. The role combines core accounting expertise with hands‑on experience in the construction sector, ensuring accurate reporting, job costing and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full‑cycle accounting including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
• Oversee job costing, track project budgets, costs, and profitability for multiple active construction projects.
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Process AIA progress billing, manage subcontractor payments and lien waivers.
• Monitor Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules and generate over/under billing reports.
• Assist with payroll processing, including certified payroll for prevailing‑wage projects where applicable.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations, construction contracts, and internal financial controls.
• Collaborate with project managers to forecast costs and track change orders.
• Support year‑end audits and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Maintain and improve accounting procedures specific to construction operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 4–7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Vista, Procore, or QuickBooks.
• Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage‑of‑completion accounting.
• Knowledge of AIA billing, subcontract management, and lien waiver processes.
