Consultant - Anatomic Pathology

About the role

NMC Healthcare is hiring a Consultant in Anatomic Pathology for its Royal Hospital in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi. The consultant diagnoses disease from tissue, fluids and other specimens, advises other medical practitioners and directs the pathology department.

Key responsibilities

• Perform duties within the privileges set by the credential committee and organize the work of the Laboratory Department.
• Train laboratory technicians and phlebotomists and maintain quality control procedures in line with HAAD requirements.
• Analyse, interpret and report clinical biochemistry, clinical pathology, haematology, immunology, histopathology, cytopathology, transfusion practice and other tests according to health authority guidelines.
• Implement laboratory safety protocols and liaise with HAAD, the Ministry of Health blood transfusion services and reference laboratories.
• Take part in in-house and external CME programmes and serve on the hospital infection control committee, including infection control for infectious diseases and the infection control manual.
• Help develop policies and procedures with other committees, keep patient information confidential and carry out other duties assigned by the HOD and Medical Director.

Required profile

• Medical school graduation, one year of internship and three years of residency, with an MD in Pathology.
• At least three years of experience managing laboratory tests and techniques for all types of patients.
• Excellent command of spoken and written English; Arabic is desirable but not essential.
• HAAD licence to practice in Abu Dhabi and current licensure in the country of origin.
• Mature clinical judgment, professional leadership, strong communication skills and adherence to hospital policies and confidentiality obligations.
